Annual cycling event benefits Children's Center

Cyclists can enjoy a ride Saturday at the 11th annual "Spin Your Wheels Bicycle Tour," complete with food, coffee and refreshment stops. The tour benefits The Children's Center, a private, nonprofit hospital that provides medical care, therapy and education to children with special health needs.

For a $30 registration fee, teams or individuals can ride in a:
" 15-kilometer,
" 25-kilometer,
" 50-kilometer,
" 100-kilometer or
" 100-mile course.

All begin at 7:30 a.m. at The Children's Center, 6800 N.W. 39th in Bethany. The event is hosted by the West Oklahoma City Rotary Club.

After the ride, cyclists can enjoy live music and free massages in addition to Starbucks coffee and Jamba Juice treats.

"It's a way for cyclists to get out and have some fun and raise money for a good cause," said Haley Barsaleau, public affairs assistant with The Children's Center.
She said the event also creates continued benefits for the hospital.

At last year's event, 925 riders from Oklahoma and surrounding states participated. Proceeds totaled more than $40,000. Barsaleau said the number of participants this year is well exceeding last year's total.

"We are very thankful for all of those people " people go way above and beyond what we ask of them," she said.
