Amid the journey from rap and hip-hop to the red carpet and Hollywood, one of the more promising personalities to make the switch is Tip Harris, better known in music circles as T.I. The Atlanta rapper stars in "ATL," an engaging coming-of-age picture that successfully manages to rejuvenate a shopworn formula.
Harris plays Rashad, a 17-year-old high school student who hangs out with his best friends at a roller rink in Southside Atlanta. The inner city brings its unique set of challenges. Rashad's younger brother, Antwone (Evan Ross), is drawn to the lure of easy money selling dope for a drug dealer (Big Boi from the hip-hop duo OutKast). Meanwhile, Rashad falls hard for a ghetto diva (Lauren London) who harbors secrets of her own.
