ATV racing competition pulls into Stillwater

The PowerSports ATV Tour hits Stillwater's Cooperland Raceway, Friday through Sunday.

"The PowerSports ATV Tour is a nationally touring, televised ATV racing series," said Justin Anderson, director of communications for PowerSports Entertainment.

Featuring such pro riders as Doug Gust and Dustin Wimmer, the Southwestern National competition will consist of three categories:
" QuadMX Pro 450,
" QuadTerrain Challenge Pro Stock, and
" SuperSport Side by Side.

The QuadMX Pro 450 event is motocross-style racing with big air elements, while the QuadTerrain event has ATVs contending on an obstacle course that includes logjams, mud bogs and rock crawls. The SuperSport Side by Side includes four-wheeled utility vehicles, containing both a driver and co-driver sitting side-by-side, racing on a modified course.

More than $45,000 in purse money will be awarded during the weekend for the Quad MX Pro 450 and QuadTerrain Challenge classes.

"We do have the richest purse in ATV racing," Anderson said.

The PowerSports ATV Championship Tour is the continent's leading professional ATV racing circuit, boasting more than 20 amateur classes for men, women and children. ESPN2 will broadcast the event July 7 and 14.

Tickets are $15 a day for adults and $5 for kids ages 6-15. For more information, visit their site. "CJ Macklin
