His last eight years were spent at a metro Carino’s Italian, 7900 S. Walker, that he originally helped opened.

“Single and 32 years old.”
Best feature? “My cooking (skills), and I
create many of my own recipes, from American to Mexican. Lots of the
bagel recipes at the cafe, the breakfast menu and most of the tapas in
the wine bar, The Vineyard, are mine.”
Is there a cookbook in the future? “I have possible plans to do one.”
On your day off? “I ride my Harley and work in my garden. My father, Bob Coursey, was a horticulturalist.”
Saturday at Kamp’s 1910 Cafe: “I water all the plants I put (in) the restaurant (for) Kim Cordero, one of the managing partners.”
Best thing about Kamp’s 1910? “Everything is made from scratch, nothing from (a) box, and we try to use Oklahoma products.”
People would be surprised to know that: “I am a barefoot water skier.”
My musical preference is: “Classical rock.”
Food you run away from: “None, I eat it all!”
Food you would kill for: “Steak and lobster.”
Talents? “Playing the guitar and cooking.”

CHECKERBOARD CLOSES FOR GOOD
Unfortunately, The Checkerboard Cafe, 2001 Church Ave. in Harrah, is closing, and the last day is this Friday.
The Checkerboard had just relocated back to Harrah from its Midwest City location. The original was owned and operated by Tom and Lori Booth, but Tom, the chef, was accidentally hit and killed by a car while riding his bike. The current owners are thanking everyone for being with them as customers, friends and family through the years.
FUNDRAISER AT THE PROHIBITION ROOM
Roller Derby team the Oklahoma Victory Dolls and DJ Neu will host the second annual Yacht Rock Charity Fundraiser at 7 p.m. on July 9 at the Prohibition Room, 1112 N.W. 23rd.
The event is held as a benefit for Lori, aka Lmbr Timber Onu, of Florida’s Emerald Coast Roller Derby.
In late April, Lori was the victim of a severe domestic violence attack that left her needing surgery to repair broken eye sockets, nose and cheek bones. She faces a long recovery and growing medical bills.
The Saturday evening event will feature comedian Ryan Drake playing host and emcee, along with yachtthemed caricatures by Spencer Tracy, cupcakes by Luxy Cupcakes, a photo booth by Anna Lee Photography and the yacht rock soundtrack by DJ Neu. There will also be a domestic violence information booth provided by the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
Yacht rock is the smooth-sailing name for adult-contemporary music of the late ’70s and early ’80s that featured artists like Kenny Loggins, the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in their smooth best like captain’s hats, short shorts, striped knee socks and boat shoes.
A TASTE OF EDMOND
CNN and USA Today have named Edmond’s LibertyFest, a nonprofit organization involving hundreds of volunteers, as one of the top 10 places to be on July Fourth.
The multi-day festival kicked off June 25 and runs to July 9 and includes several events, such as a car show, kite fest, road rally, concert and more.
One of the most popular events of LibertyFest, A Taste of Edmond brought out hundreds of hungry festival-goers who sampled cuisine from more than 35 participating restaurants. A Taste of Edmond is a fundraiser for LibertyFest that raises money for the many events that are scheduled during the annual festival.
Upcoming LibertyFest events include an outdoor concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursdsay on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma and a chalk-drawing contest starting at 10 a.m. Friday at the Festival Market Place. It all leads up to the magnificent Fourth of July parade that starts at 9 a.m. in downtown Edmond.
