The Oklahoma Senate considered just two bills the morning of April 27. The first was to override Gov. Brad Henry's veto of an abortion bill that would require a woman considering an abortion to view an ultrasound of the fetus before the abortion. After heated debate, the Senate successfully overrode the veto.

The second bill dealt with the problem of puppy mills in Oklahoma. Again, heated debate took place, with proponents arguing better laws are needed to keep bad breeders off the market. Opponents countered, saying this would lead to a slippery slope of government intrusion into the breeding of livestock such as cattle.

Sen. Jim Wilson, D-Tahlequah, debating in favor of the bill, tried to calm the fears of the opposition: "I promise there is no requirement in the bill for an ultrasound of a pregnant puppy."
