Businesses, artists join forces for Earth Day event

Several Oklahoma City businesses and artists are joining together this weekend for an Earth Day event that focuses on environmental awareness and eco-conscious art.

"Rethink: Recycle: Redesign," a collaborative art exhibit opening Sunday at Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery, 811 N. Broadway, kicks off with an exhibit preview party 7 p.m. Saturday.

The opening event includes a live performance by local rockers 13 Seeds, food provided by several metro eateries and a silent auction.

"It's basically a fund-raiser for Sustainable OKC and IAO," said Jeff Stokes, IAO director. "We have a silent auction for a few of the items that we've had donated, and of course, there's the art for sale as well."

Stokes said there are about 35 artists contributing works for the show, and proceeds from both the auction and the sales benefit Sustainable OKC, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to raising awareness of environmental issues in Oklahoma.

The exhibit runs through May 8. Tickets to the opening are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For additional information or to purchase tickets, call 232-6060.
