The Christmas Connection Connection at S.W. 25th Street and S. Hudson Avenue may sound like a seasonal organization, but it's spreading holiday cheer all year round to Oklahomans in need.
"The mission of Christmas Connection is to link those in need of receiving to those in need of giving," said Valerie Finley, Christmas Connection executive director.
Since its inception in 1981, The Christmas Connection has been helping low-income families, children and senior citizens in many ways.
"We have programs throughout the year," Finley said. "We have our Christmas shopping days in December, we have school supplies and school clothes throughout the school year, and we also have fire relief " which is if somebody has a house fire, they can come in and shop for all the needed items."
Finley said for some families, Christmas Connection is the only option they have when it comes to shopping for the holidays.
"For many of the families, there's not anything else," she said. "This is what is going to be their Christmas."
The memories last a long time for many people, including 38-year-old Oklahoma City resident Tangy Minor, who has shopped at Christmas Connection several times. Minor lost everything in a mobile home fire in March 2006 and turned to Christmas Connection for help.
