Naturally, a Black Friday Record Store Day spun off in 2010, standing in direct opposition to the chaotic scenes at big box stores, and this third installment offers dozens of sought-after titles from artists of all sorts.

Here’s a roundup of some of the most notable releases:


Modern darlings 

Many of the biggest bands of the moment have unique sets, rare singles and more hitting shelves exclusively during Black Friday RSD.

Oklahoma’s own Flaming Lips unveil Peace Sword, an EP of songs inspired by the film Ender’s Game, on CD and vinyl. Queens of the Stone Age release a limited black-on-black edition of its 2013 album, ...Like Clockwork, and Lana Del Rey will release a picture disc version of Born to Die.

For something more folk-friendly, Band of Horses offers up its Live at the Ryman 7-inch single, and The Civil Wars cover Michael Jackson, Portishead and Elliott Smith on their Between the Bars EP. Meanwhile, Dawes serve intimate takes of songs from their album Stories Don’t End with Stripped Down at Grimey’s, and Low and Shearwater cover Rihanna and Frank Ocean on a 7-inch split single.

There are also releases from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Ladytron, Jack Johnson, Uncle Tupelo, Tegan & Sara, Silversun Pickups, Foals and more.

The classics

If it’s something timeless you are after, there’s no shortage of releases from some of the biggest bands and musicians of all time. Record Store Day curated a special LP collection of The Doors; Bob Dylan is putting out a rarities album, Side Tracks; Roy Orbison’s early work is collected in The Monument Vinyl Box and Steve Albini’s remixed and remastered take of Nirvana’s In Utero gets the vinyl treatment.

Metallica releases a special edition version of its Through the Never soundtrack, Grateful Dead puts out an live, acoustic LP, Family Dog at the Great Highway, and Stone Temple Pilots’ Core gets released on yellow vinyl.

In addition, there are numerous reissues from Paul Simon (Paul Simon, There Goes Rhymin’ Simon and Still Crazy After All These Years), The Replacements (All Shook Down), Miles Davis (Kind of Blue, Miles & Monk at Newport and Jazz Track), Jethro Tull (Benefit) and The Clash (The Clash, Give ’Em Enough Rope, London Calling, Sandinista! and Combat Rock).

Then comes new music from the likes of U2 with Ordinary Love, written for the upcoming Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom film soundtrack, and Blind Boys of Alabama, who team up with Jason Isbell and John Paul White for the Christmas in Dixie single.

Family-friendly

Several releases suited for the whole family hit shelves this Black Friday, including Vince Guaraldi Trio’s 7-inch vinyl Linus and Lucy, featuring music from the soundtrack of A Charlie Brown Christmas. Rockabye Baby!’s latest Lullaby installment sets its sights on Pearl Jam, while the vinyl release of the 2010 A Musical Tribute to the Songs of Shel Silverstein features offerings from My Morning Jacket, Andrew Bird, John Prine, Dr. Dog and more.
