The Oklahoma City council held its weekly meeting on Tuesday with the entire meeting devoted to budget presentations in preparation for next year's budget.

Here are a few notes from the meeting:

  • The city’s code enforcement division will modernize its inspection process as tablets for its 33 field officers will replace clipboards and cameras starting this summer.
  • The department has also increased its focus on yard parking enforcement. The average number of annual citations for cars parked in yards (year to date through April) was around 3,000 in 2012. Following the addition of five more field officers for weekend duty, the number of yard parking citations has dramatically increased in recent years and stands at over 11,000 this year through April.
  • The code department issues over 13,000 citations a year but attempts to work with property owners, said Bob Tener, the Development Service Director. “It’s important for our inspectors to work with property owners before a citation is issued,” Tener said.
