City council set to vote on possible Sonics-Ford Center contract

The Oklahoma City Council is slated to vote Tuesday morning on the terms of a long-term contract with the SuperSonics to play basketball at the Ford Center.

Among the key elements of the contract proposal are:

15-year lease with five renewal terms of three years each Sonics have exclusive rights to sell the name of the arena Sonics may earn up to 45 percent of concession sales City receives $2.149 million from the Sonics in fees 

According to a financial impact report, city officials expect operating costs for Sonics games at the Ford Center to run near $2.8 million annually. Officials anticipate receiving $2.95 million in revenue from fees, sales taxes and parking revenue.

The Sonics' owners, Professional Basketball Club LLC, are seeking to move the team from Seattle to Oklahoma City.
