Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett is now accepting applications through email from Oklahoma City residents interested in volunteering on boards, committees and commissions that are staffed by the citys planning department.
The application process is new and was designed to help fill board vacancies with the most qualified individuals. Commissions include: Arts Commission, Bricktown Urban Design Committee, Citizens Committee for Community Development
Applications can be downloaded through www.okc.gov/council/boards/
· Downtown Design Review Committee
· Historic Preservation Commission
· Planning Commission
· Riverfront Design Committee
· Stockyards City Urban Design committee
· Urban Design Commission
Citizen participation has always been critical to Oklahoma Citys success, Cornett said in a media statement. More than 600 citizens sit on over 70 City boards, trusts and commissions Citywide. These civic-minded residents play an important role in shaping our City.
Positions will be filled as vacancies occur. Applications will be accepted anytime, but applicants must resubmit a new application at the beginning of each year.
Most boards, committees and commissions have requirements about the make-up of their board, including the geographic distribution of members by Ward or special areas of the city, and qualifications for professional experience or areas of expertise. Most boards require volunteers to be City residents, but a few allow non-residents to be appointed members.
Applicants can log on to http://www.okc.gov/council/boards/ to learn details about each commission and download the application form.
