When the fashion god calls, you answer. Anna Wintour — the editor-in-chief of the fashion bible known as Vogue — asks shopaholics around the globe to pump funds into the fashion industry — and the economy — with the fourth annual Fashion’s Night Out.

Locally, Penn Square Mall is getting in on the action as it hosts the event for the first time and offers exclusive designs from retailers, as well as gifts and giveaways.

“Fashion’s Night Out is a global initiative that was created for the celebration of fashion and to help support local economy,” said Mis Gaston, director of marketing and business development at Penn Square Mall. “Retailers will [have] special offers and some will actually have in-store events. You’ll be able to walk in the mall and actually see an outfit [on a model] that you can purchase.”

Not only will attendees be able to shop from the latest racks during the evening, but they’ll also have a chance to win items featured in an exclusive collection currently unavailable anywhere else.

“You have to be a registered participant in Fashion’s Night Out to be able to get these items,” Gaston said.

The list of participating stores is sure to have shoppers look forward to the event.

“Vera Bradley will be participating. We have White House Black Market [participating],” said Gaston. “We also will have some of our anchor stores participate, as well.”

A portion of the proceeds from the exclusive collection will benefit The New York Community Trust’s NYC AIDS Fund. Gaston sees an opportunity to expand future Fashion’s Night Out events by partnering with worthy causes locally.

She said she hopes making the event an annual tradition here will allow OKC to compete with larger fashion markets.
