Britney Spears repackaged as a religious icon and a 14-inch stainless-steel cucumber are among Jeff Hamilton's blunt new work debuting Friday at Norman's Mainsite Contemporary Art gallery.

A tabloid photo of Spears lopping off her locks during her infamous meltdown last year comprises the larger of Hamilton's two pieces. The pop-tart image is surrounded by a handcrafted replica of a gilded 17th-century Italian frame, complete with religious imagery.

His works were a late addition to a show featuring oil paintings by Jeff Dodd and the J. Michele Martin-Coyne photo series of The Flaming Lips' 2007 world tour. The exhibit runs through March 28.

"My work expresses a dedication and attachment to experiences," he said. "It also represents my willingness to derive authority from consensus."

Hamilton designed the cucumber piece because of the overt sexual connotations of a giant steel gourd, he said.
