Don't let bad costume makeup spoil young spectres " get a Halloween look with bite!
Eager goblins and ghouls will learn the witchy ways of professional wart, cut and bruise application during a 2 p.m. "Horror Makeup" lesson Saturday at the Edmond Library, 10 S. Boulevard.
Donna Dickson, an adjunct theater professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, will share tricks of the trade, demonstrate stage makeup methods on attendees and offer tips on bringing extra realism to holiday costumes. Dickson will also provide spooky suggestions to those without costume ideas.
The Edmond Library will provide supplies for the Horror Makeup program, and Dickson will list local places for makeup supplies.
"Horror Makeup" is part of the 11th annual Teen Read Week, a national literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association, which encourages kids and teens to read.
This year's theme is "Books with Bite," and literary nail-biters packed with vampires and witches top this month's YALSA booklist.
Other local libraries are participating in "Books with Bite" and hosting similar "Horror Makeup" programs. If you miss Saturday's event in Edmond, steer your broom to the Village Library, 10307 N. Pennsylvania, for a 6:30 program on Oct. 21 or ride by Belle Isle Library, 5501 N. Villa, for a 2 p.m. program on Oct. 25.
