During fiscal year 2010, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma distributed nearly 11,985,460 pounds of food and product in Oklahoma County through its network of partner agencies, which reported up to a 50-percent increase in needs.
"In total, we distributed nearly 36.5 million pounds last year throughout our 53-county service area," said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank. "This equates to a 28-percent increase over the previous year."
Oklahoma ranks as the sixth-hungriest state in the nation, as one in seven people not knowing where their next meal will come from. Regional Food Bank provides enough food to feed 77,000 children, adults and seniors each week.
