Having made a name for themselves in Fort Worth, Texas — first as a duo and now as a five-piece — blues rockers Foxtrot Uniform are all set for their Oklahoma debut, Friday at Blue Note Lounge, followed by Saturday at Grady’s 66 Pub.

According to lead guitarist Kenny Uptain, the short trip north has been a long time coming — “about 10 years now,” he said.

Foxtrot Uniform is his main gig, but co-founding partner Kelly Test also moonlights with the symphonic-pop choir known as The Polyphonic Spree. As disparate as the two bands are, Uptain noted that Foxtrot Uniform has worked hard to maintain a mind-altering sound just as unique.

“Within the last year, we’ve become a five-piece and it’s very blues, very soulful, but there’s some psychedelic elements in it, a lot like the 13th Floor Elevators,” he said. “Not as intense as those guys, but along those lines.”

When it came to sharing that intensity, Grady’s 66 Pub was high on the guys’ list of venues.

“We heard that Grady’s has a good rowdy bar crowd, so we’re expecting a good rowdy night, I hope,” Uptain said. “It’s definitely a big show that needs to be seen to really explain it. There’s a lot of big energy and a lot of music coming off the stage, a lot of sound.”

Soon, Foxtrot Uniform will head into the studio to record its second album, a follow-up to last year’s Huj! Huj! Hajrah!, but its first as a quintet. No matter the number of members, Uptain and Test are thankful just to be able to play to crowds.

“I’m
not sure what else is going on around town that night,” Uptain said,
“but as far as when the Quaker City Night Hawks and us get together,
there’s no better show in town that I’d rather go see, you know what I
mean?”
