JRB Art at The Elms will welcome Karl Brenner's landscape paintings and Paula Willis Jones' mixed-media pieces with an opening reception at 6 p.m. Friday. Debuting during the Paseo Arts District's monthly First Friday Gallery Walk, these exhibits bring a fresh start to the gallery, 2810 N. Walker, for the month of July.
Brenner's work portrays the beauty of diverse outdoor scenes, capturing the harmony of nature in his seaside and mountain paintings. Jones' exhibit juxtaposes Brenner's serene landscapes with her "Meditations," a series of mixed-media pieces reflecting the artist's perceptions.
"While these works are a departure from the landscapes and portraits I've done in the past, they represent my state of mind at this time," Jones said, in a press release. "I approached these pieces as simple meditations. I don't often know what the lines and shapes mean, but I have faith that the universe knows and that they will send light into the world."
Her work represents her interpretations of many pertinent issues, like conservation, those close to her and even one of the current presidential candidates. Using familiar media, such as ink and watercolor, Jones also used the computer to help develop her images.
Brenner and Jones' exhibits run through July 26. JRB Art at The Elms is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 528-6336.
