The OCU Board of Trustees today approved a proposal to move the law school to the former Central High School, near the Automobile Alley area.
Earlier this year, OCU competed for the building with Oklahoma City Public Schools, which wanted to use the facility as a new administration building.
OCU officials are planning renovations to the 177,000-square-foot building, currently occupied by American Farmers & Ranchers Mutual Insurance Company, in hopes of starting classes there in 2014.
The building was constructed in 1910 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
“The law school has been looking for an ideal downtown location for its students for several years,” said Valerie K. Couch, OCU School of Law dean. “This magnificent building came to our attention and it ignited our imagination. Here, we will be able to build new and dynamic connections with the legal and business community, and contribute to the growth and progress of this great city of ours.”
