Owner Greg Seal created the neighborhood bar at 317 N.W. 23rd as an homage to his grandfathers.
“I feel like anything I do well is from the examples those two men set for me,” Seal said. “The way they behaved and the kindness with which they treated people really shaped me.”
The bar displays personal memorabilia, including a piece of corrugated tin from his grandfather’s milk barn, an old motorcycle from behind the barn, and the address numbers from his other grandfather’s home.
Seal also has put up pictures of his two grandfathers, and expects that friends and regulars will do the same in his “smoke-free honky-tonk.”
“I want people to point out their granddad and tell stories,” he said. “I want them to leave here with more friends than they came in with.”
The bar will feature classic rock and country, bluegrass and rockabilly, with a stage available for local bands. Six beer taps will feature rotating Oklahoma brews.
The first batch is Coop F5, Marshall Old Pavilion and Atlas IPA, Anthem, Mustang Route 66 and Black Mesa. Full liquor service is also available.
Grandad’s officially opened this week and will be closed on Mondays. On Tuesdays through Fridays, the bar is open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., and on Saturdays, from noon to 2 a.m. Seal said he will test opening on Sundays, from 1 p.m. to midnight.
