A day of community celebration to usher in the newly renovated Myriad Gardens will include the release of thousands of monarch butterflies.
Saturdays Festival on the Green begins at 8:30 a.m. with Zumba on the lawn, a 10 a.m. dedication ceremony, and various other activities until 7:30 p.m., when Grammy-nominated red-dirt musician Pat Green kicks off his free concert.
Activities for all ages include a farmers market, a pumpkin patch and free admission to the Crystal Bridge.
After more than a year of undergoing a $42 million renovation, Myriad Gardens reopened in April, but is finally having an official dedication. Additions to the 17-acre park include a childrens garden with a hedge maze, a splash fountain that makes visitors feel like being stuck in a thunderstorm, a wave fountain, a story tree, a new band shell and an area for dogs.
This event is really exciting, because it is the first opportunity people will have a chance to see a lot of the amenities that didnt exist before, said Alesha Leemaster, Devon Energy community affairs coordinator. The Crystal Bridge has remained largely the same. It is really the crown jewel of Oklahoma City, and that was something that the project designers did not want to change.
Admission is free. For more information, call 297-3995 or visit okcfestivalonthegreen.com. Carmen Forman
