Call it a natural talent. Call it feng shui. Call it divine inspiration. Whatever the name, there's a certain sense of style needed in order to construct a unique water pond.
Sure, anyone can stop by a home improvement store, pick up a preformed pond kit, toss it in a hole in the back yard and try to jazz it up with flagstones, koi and kitschy statutes, but in order to make a truly lasting impression, water pond enthusiasts have to instill a certain something to perfect the art and make waves in the community.
Several residents in Norman and the surrounding area have done just that. And to showcase their creations, the Central Oklahoma Water Garden Society Inc. is presenting the 2008 Garden Pond Tour from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The free tour features 10 ponds " completed and in progress " on display for participants to enjoy and draw a little inspiration from for their own creations. In the event of rain, the tour will be held Sunday instead.
Complete with maps, directions, descriptions and photos, a free pond tour guide is available to view or download. Water garden aficionados are encouraged to join COWGSI, too " membership is free and offers the opportunity to mingle with other garden heads.
