Groups denounce campaign comic book

Gay rights groups Cimarron Alliance Foundation of Oklahoma and Oklahomans for Equality are asking state political and business leaders to denounce the campaign comic book released by Brent Rinehart.

Last week, the sitting Oklahoma County commissioner sent out a 16-page comic book portraying himself as a righteous leader defending the public from what he termed "liberal good ol' boys." The comic book depicts nearly every public official Rinehart has disputes with over the past few years.

It also depicts Rinehart as working to save children from a homosexual agenda.

The comic book has made national news, leading to Rinehart being interviewed by CNN. The cable news appearance prompted the response from the gay rights groups.

The official statement read: "CAF and OkEq are joining together to ask Oklahoma's leaders to denounce Rinehart's campaign and his publication, in order to distance Oklahoma's cities and counties from icons of hatred and ignorance."

Rinehart faces re-election on Tuesday for his District 2 Oklahoma County Commission seat. He is seeking the Republican nomination against two opponents, Brian Maughan and J.D. Johnston. In September, Rinehart is to stand trial on felony campaign finance charges. "Scott Cooper
