Although, I did polish off a bottle of wine a couple weeks ago. And before you freak out, it was over an outstanding birthday dinner at Ludivine, as opposed to drinking by myself with the lights off while sobbing and talking to the cats. Thank God it was the former, not the latter, because Im a horrible baby when it comes to hangovers, and I doubt the cats would make very good sick nurses.
But hangovers happen, and to celebrate our issue dedicated to all things boozy, Im going to focus on the day after, when you feel like hissing at the sun and dont care who sees you lolling on the couch moaning and clutching your stomach.
First: blankets for said couch lolling. Annabelles Galleria (1201 N.W. 178th in Edmond; 359-1189) has you covered with some super-soft blankies for all your lazy needs. I loved the cable-knit throws in the coziest of knits by Divine. Bonus: They come in eyesoothing colors like buttery yellow, tan and chocolate brown.
If thats a bit too tame, check out the plush fleece blankets by Journey in wild prints like giraffe or zebra. And unless youre planning on going nude under them, pick up one of the adorable pajama sets (in the traditional button-down top and drawstring bottoms) available in fun floral prints.
Annabelles Galleria moved to its new location in November, and its definitely worth checking out. It has an eclectic mix of gifts and home decor thatll satisfy your non-drunk self.
Not all scents smell like the aftermath of a Red Hat Society lunch hour.
If youre like me, you cant handle heavy scents that morning after. But not all scents smell like the aftermath of a Red Hat Society lunch hour. For some subtle, soothing ones, head to Essentials (9225 N. Penn; 842-6401) for olfactory remedies.
Especially look for the scented pillow liners (check out fresh and botanical) by Sleep Sensations, the Crabtree & Evelyn gel eye masks and the Thymes bath salts in eucalyptus and lavender.
Essentials has a great selection of soaps, lotions, creams and gifts. If you love a particular line (for example, the amazing Pre de Provence shea butter soaps Im slightly obsessed with), you can bet Essentials will carry the entire line. Love that.
Finally, heading outdoors. That fryup and coffee isnt going to just show up on your doorstep. (And if it does, please call me. Thats a handy trick.) That leaves only one option: oversized sunglasses.
Funky Monkey (14101 N. May; 748-7066) just got in new glasses from Marc by Marc Jacobs, and theyre all pretty fabulous. I especially loved the big, plastic frames of one pair that faded from a subtle tortoise shell to a clear blue. So cool.
Funky Monkey also has a collection of Juicy Couture sunglasses in both aviators and plastic frames, plus slouchy, cool-kid loungewear-style pants from Young, Fabulous & Broke.
With all these options, it almost makes me want to overdrink on purpose. Almost.
