Among those opposed to the measure was Paul Blair, pastor of Fairview Baptist Church — in Edmond, not OKC — who asked the council, “Why are we creating a special class of protection for someone’s behavior? We’re not talking about civil rights. This is not a gender, or this is not a race.”

The
day after the vote, he said he received a blast of death “threats from
Homosexual Activists,” according to Blair. In an email addressed “To our
friends in the Media,” the pastor — after chastising Ward 2 Councilman
Ed Shadid for playing “the Nazi card” — provided an asterisks-laden
transcript of the hateful messages he claimed to receive, including:

—“I
have committed homicide more than one time and in more than one state –
and yet have not been caught or charged. Think about that.”

—“I will be coming to visit you at 1230 North Sooner Road. I will be seeing you, bringing you something.”

—“I suggest you listen to this message clearly. A (muffled — sounds like
‘bomb’) has been placed on your property in the building, as well as
some visitors will be visiting Pastor Blair at his residence. This is
just to let you know. Thank you. Detonate it, Detonate.”

—“I wanna f*** your wife. I’m gonna f*** Mr. Blair’s wife.”

—“(Clearly in a more agitated state):

It
is highly recommended that you have somebody to answer the phone of your
church, especially the dumb a** Pastor Blair. Women should not be in a
position in a church of employment... That is non-Christian. Women
should be f***** their husbands and reproducing children only. While the
man chooses his partner to f*** for pleasure. It is recommen- DED! that
a man answer the phone at your f******* establishment. I will be seeing
you soon!!”

—“I have committed homicide more than one time in more than one state.
It is suggested that someone answer the phone and not a woman.

I will be visiting you soon; I am letting you know right now.”

—“It is really getting a little old hearing this old b**** records / (voice) on your answering machine.”

—“Would someone get off their ugly a** and please call me back.”

Blair’s
transcript included a phone number that, when Google-searched with the
405 area code, reveals a complaint against the digits on
NumberInvestigator.com. On Aug. 29, one Annie Cox reported the number as
a prank caller: “threatened to kill me, harm to my kids.”

But
what’s more interesting is that Blair’s transcript also notes that at
least one of the messages was rendered in “a ‘Terminator’ voice.” The
pastor included a handy MP3 file compiling all the calls, and it’s
currently rocking CFN’s iTunes playlist. (It certainly boasts better
lyrics than that new Nickelback album.)

Listen to an MP3 file containing phone threats Paul Blair has received from homosexual activists.

Bucky
the CFN intern posits that three things lead him to believe the calls
are merely pranks and not the work of “Homosexual Activists”:

1. “The calls sound like the work of one guy, which would be ‘activist,’ singular.”

2. “Homosexuals don’t hate women; in fact, they love women more than men ... as my girlfriend keeps reminding me.”

3.
“I saw the cover of ‘101 Must-See Movies for Gay Men’ at Barnes &
Noble, and the cover has, like, ‘Willy Wonka’ and ‘Mommie Dearest,’ not
‘The Terminator.’”
