Henry issues disaster declaration for 24 counties

Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry announced today he has issued a disaster declaration for 24 counties --  including Oklahoma, Cleveland, Canadian, Logan and McClain "? hit hard by the remnants of Tropical Storm Erin which passed through the state late Saturday and early Sunday.

"It was called the remnants of Tropical Storm Erin but it looked to me more like it was Tropical Storm Erin over Oklahoma," Henry said while touring hard-hit Kingfisher today. "The state will do everything possible as soon as possible to help."

The disaster declaration is the first step toward seeking federal assistance, Henry said.

State Department of Emergency Management Director Albert Ashwood toured Kingfisher along with Henry and Lt. Gov. Jari Askins.
