Hornets could return to OKC, where they belong

The way things are shaping up, the New Orleans Hornets could very well be back to the Ford Center in the not-too-distant future.

And this time, it would be on a permanent basis. All we have to do is patiently wait and see how it all unfolds.

A few months ago, it looked as if a deal moving the Sonics to OKC was almost a sure thing. But Seattle fans have publicly rallied behind the Sonics, and the city has decided to fight back, beginning with the suit against Sonics owner/OKC businessman Clay Bennett.

The timing of the federal court case will almost certainly play a key role in Bennett's plans to move his team to OKC for the 2008-09 season. Even if Seattle loses its suit, the Sonics might not be eligible to leave town until the conclusion of the '09 season or later.

If that proved to be the case, Hornets owner Shinn could potentially bring the Hornets back to OKC, where the local chamber of commerce said the NBA franchise had an estimated $125 million economic impact during its previous two-year stay.

In the grand scheme of things, the Hornets are a better fit. While Shinn may not be the most beloved owner in the NBA, he is a wise businessman who has been witness to OKC's passion and understands its potential. "Jay C. Upchurch
