IAO hosts 'Red Dot' auction

Instead of a dream date, why not bid on a dreamy piece of artwork and mark your territory "¦ with a red dot.

A creative twist to auctioning off dates, Individual Artists of Oklahoma hosts "Red Dot" "? an auction for commissioned pieces created by local artists, from 7-11 p.m. Saturday at the IAO Gallery, 811 N. Broadway.

The annual fund-raiser features a silent art auction with work from 52 Oklahoma artists who create works in sculpture, paints, mixed-media, collage, photography, mosaic and fiber arts.

The fund-raiser's name denotes the red sticker a gallery places on any work of art as soon as it is sold. Instead of actual pieces, participating artists will set a minimum bid and approximate size for commissioned pieces that will be created specifically for the highest bidder.

"Red Dot" organizers said the auction was created to "stimulate artists, art patrons and the community as a whole to experience a diverse array of Oklahoma talent and the opportunity to dream up something new with those artists."

Signature "Red Dot" cocktails will be served along with and food from local restaurants.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For more information, call 232-6060.
