In Your Eye Studio & Gallery features month-long 'Home and Away' exhibit

A month-long art exhibit of works created by local artists depicting scenes of life in Oklahoma will debut Friday at the Paseo's In Your Eye Studio & Gallery.

"Home and Away" is a collection of art in various media created by artists from the studio, said Gayle Curry, one of the exhibitors. She said each of the nine artists will showcase a piece of art in the exhibit and were given creative freedom in making their pieces. The works represent different styles of painting, photography and jewelry, but Curry said the pieces are unified by ties to Oklahoma or Western culture.

"We're trying to do things that are kind of Oklahoma-inspired, you know, from small towns to big cities "? anything that is kind of Oklahoma-related," she said.

Curry said her showpiece is an abstract oil painting of a state landscape that was inspired by her life here. Born in Cromwell, she has lived in Oklahoma City for 20 years.

"I'm Oklahoma born and bred," she said.

The In Your Eye Studio & Gallery usually features one of the studio's artists each month, and occasionally organizes group shows like this. Curry said this is the studio's first group show of the year.

Next week, the exhibit coincides with June 14's The Paseo Stroll, a one-day open house hosted by several of the galleries and studios in the Paseo Arts District. This is the second year In Your Eye has participated in The Paseo Stroll, Curry said, and the first year the studio has held "Home and Away."

The art show opens with a 6 p.m. reception at the gallery, 3005-A Paseo. Admission is free. Call 525-2161.
