Phase 2 of the I-44 west bike and walking trail that would offer a dedicated bike trail from Lake Hefner to the Oklahoma River could be open in less than two years.
“Construction will take a year total once it begins,” said David Todd, Oklahoma City’s MAPS director. “I think it will be a little short of [two years] for this to finish.”
The $13.8 million trail is a part of MAPS 3 and would run 8.15 miles through west Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City council heard a presentation Tuesday on the exact path of the trail, which would run west of I-44 before crossing the highway near the state fairgrounds. Will Rogers Park, Girvin Park, Baptist Medical Center, Deaconess Hospital and two elementary schools would be points of interest along the trail.
The trial would be 12 feet wide in most places, but dedicated bike lanes would be used at some street crossings.
