Lance Armstrong kicks off LiveStrong Day/Night at RedHawks game

Lance Armstrong is coming to Oklahoma "¦ well, maybe only via JumboTron, but his foundation will be in Oklahoma City in full force. Support the millions of cancer fighters around the nation and attend the inaugural Oklahoma LiveStrong Day/Night from 7:05 to 11 p.m. Tuesday at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, 2 S. Mickey Mantle.

The event, to be held during an Oklahoma RedHawks game and certified and developed by the Lance Armstrong Foundation, was created to connect people affected by the debilitating disease.

Edmond resident and cancer survivor Jerry Burnstein Jr., and his father, Jerry Burnstein Sr., have organized the affair, uniting with 500 other communities nationwide holding similar events designed to increase awareness and support.

"Cancer is such a big issue," Burnstein Jr. said. "More than 18,000 Oklahomans will be diagnosed (and) 7,000 will die this year."

During the game, champion cyclist Armstrong will address the crowd via satellite, succeeding the first pitch of the ball game thrown by an Oklahoma cancer survivor. Attendees are encouraged to wear yellow " Armstrong's signature color, representing courage, hope and perseverance " and will receive two tickets for the price of one for doing so.
