Local artist Jack Hill had a personality and lived a life that matched the vibrant colors he spilled onto canvases for more than 40 years.
Hill died on Jan. 18 at the age of 77, after battling a long-term illness. For the entire month of March, the life and work of the beloved Paseo artist have been celebrated in "Just Jack," a retrospective exhibit at the In Your Eye Studio & Gallery, 3005-A Paseo.
Oklahoma City painter Gayle Curry said Hill was an "amazing artist," who inspired "young and old alike." And true to the nature of his paintings, which often feature vivid landscapes, bright colors and relaxed brush strokes, Curry said that Hill was always considered "quite the character" among friends and other artists.
INSPIRATION
"Just Jack" shows early and recent pieces from the late painter, which Curry said show dramatic change and evolution in style and color. She said Hill loved to experiment and was influenced and inspired by artists he worked with and respected, and was constantly working to refine his style and technique.
"His inspiration came from his love of other artists' work, as well as his own creative view of life," she said. "Jack was a unique individual who was not afraid of trying new things."
