The partnership between IAO and the Humane Society represents the gallery's belief that art can be a tool for communication and a platform for discussion, while still celebrating visual expression.
"I think that in the last three or four years, we started focusing more on our strategic plan and how arts organizations fit in the community," Mays said. "Part of that was to recognize not just other arts organizations and try to team up, but also to reach outside of the arts community, because that's how you challenge the artists to make it fresh and do something different and get engaged in different ways."
Sit. Stay. Art! Takes place at 7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday at the Central Oklahoma Humane Society Adoption Center, 7500 N. Western.
