Neither mischievous fairies nor a scheming Puck will appear in Norman this weekend. There will, however, be enough arts and entertainment to please even Billy Shakespeare himself.
Firehouse Art Center's 33rd annual Midsummer Night's Fair is Friday and Saturday evening in Lions Park, 450 S. Flood. Make merry by creating your own artwork or revel in the original pieces by local artists.
Local, original artwork will be on display and available for purchase at nearly 50 booths. Styles include paintings, drawings, pottery, jewelry, glasswork and more, said Jennifer Skinner, public relations and marketing coordinator.
In addition, a large, central tent will house FAC faculty members, will provide opportunities for kids to create their own art.
Lest the adults feel left out, FAC has them covered with raku ware, a type of Japanese pottery. Both children and adults can purchase a pot, decorate it and have it fired, with prices ranging from $6-$20.
Live music from local musicians and bands, including Norman favorites Mama Sweet, will stream from the main stage each evening from 6-10 p.m.
With the aforementioned entertainment, those at FAC liken the event to a community night-out. And Skinner said the goal is simple.
"I'd like (people) to just have a really fun evening in the summer and come away with a greater appreciation of art and what Firehouse offers," Skinner said.
