Support the arts and do your heart some good by participating in the 38th May Fair Arts Festival Saturday at Andrews Park in Norman.
“Art and Sole” is this year’s theme, since the Assistance League of Norman opted to incorporate a 5K and 2K fun run with its annual event that emphasizes children’s art education and draws more than 25,000 visitors.
“We are pumped about our local artists,” ALN member Jason Jobe said. “May Fair has become a Norman tradition. It is a program we are proud of at the Assistance League.”
Activities for children will include an area for decorating flower pots, finger-painting and embellishing shoelaces.
Local food celebrity Caryn Ross, the 2010 winner of Paula Dean’s Real Women of Philadelphia contest, will join a variety of local food vendors providing sustenance, while area musicians and dance troupes entertain.
Among the 100-plus artists showing at May Fair this year is Tim Kenney, showing for his second year. He has been successful selling his abstract oil paintings and has had support in his new venture from many, including ALN.
“They have been very helpful to me,” Kenney said. “They are a great organization and do great things for Norman.”
ALN
raises money to support its mission to ease traumatic events in the
community by providing care kits, teddy bears and clothing for women and
children in crisis. The philanthropic organization started in 1970, and
its 600 volunteers log more than 22,000 hours each year.
“Community involvement, support and giving back to the community, which is what the Assistance League is all about,” said Jobe.
