It's official. Budding young whippersnappers at the University of Oklahoma's student-run newspaper will have a new guru to guide them in their first interactions with the fourth estate.
Judy Gibbs Robinson was named The Oklahoma Daily's adviser June 6, replacing the retiring Jack Willis.
A 30-year journalism veteran, Robinson handled minority affairs coverage at The Oklahoman from August 2003 until accepting the position. Robinson also spent 15 years with The Associated Press. She returns to the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication classroom, where she previously spent a decade teaching editing, writing and reporting, according to The Norman Transcript.
"I've never regretted going into journalism because every day you do something interesting, learn something new and perform a role that's so important in a democracy," said Robinson, who received an OU journalism master's degree in 2001. "Now I have the opportunity to help train the next generation of journalists and usher them into this profession I love."
Meta Carstarphen, associate dean of academic affairs for the GaylordCollege, told The Transcript Robinson is a known commodity in the journalism industry.
"I have seen firsthand how caring and giving she is with students," Carstarphen said. "I think it's going to be a fantastic move for us."
