Not everyone is entrenched in coupledom. The downtown Metropolitan Library, 300 Park Ave., hosts Book of Love, a free, speed-dating social for ages 25 to 45, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

“We suggest everyone bring their favorite book [as an icebreaker] to the event,” said Kim Terry, director of marketing and communication for the Metropolitan Library System. “We’re trying to reach out to a diverse audience by having some fun programs that people would never think [are held] at the library.”

“We
have our fingers crossed about the weather,” said Marcus Whitt, race
director. “We want to promote healthy living and encourage people to
come focused on themselves.”

year’s proceeds benefit local high school cross-country teams, Edmond
Parks & Recreation and Allied Arts. Cost is $25, which includes a

The highlight,
which begins at 7 p.m., is the Shred Your Ex Anti-Valentine’s Day
celebration. Patrons are invited to bring a picture of a former
boyfriend or girlfriend to, well, shred. The ritual will get you one
free domestic beer.
