New music lab gives kids room to rock

His mom, Cynthia Archiniaco, wished for a comfortable place for her son to practice, she called up her friend Gary Good, who happens to be both a musician and a businessman, to see if he could help solve the problem.

"I just thought there had to be somewhere for the boys to play, and even learn a little bit more about the music industry," Cynthia Archiniaco said. "Gary said he didn't know of anywhere like that in the city. So one thing led to another, and we decided to do it."

The Al Good Music Lab Inc. " named in honor of Gary Good's father, a well-known Oklahoma musician " opened its doors in September in the Quail Plaza Shopping Center at W. Hefner Road and N. May Avenue.

The lab is a place where kids can:
" take lessons,
" give lessons,
" join rock 'n' roll clinics,
" hold jam sessions,
" record and produce music, and
" learn about the business, all with the guidance of senior mentors.

The mentors are professional musicians and community members with experience in the music industry.

"It's not just about learning to play in a band, because without learning about everything else, you'll never get out of the practice room," John Archiniaco said. "Lauren Parajon
