The Norman Arts Council and the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art have joined to sponsor a monthly tour of Norman's art galleries, beginning Friday.
The "Second Friday Circuit of Art" will provide residents the opportunity to ride the Cleveland Area Rapid Transit from the city's Downtown Arts District to galleries and museums on Campus Corner.
Rick Fry, NAC executive director, said the monthly event was inspired by enthusiasm seen at other seasonal art walks hosted in the winter and spring.
"We're trying to expand our art walks, because with the development of the arts district in Norman, we wanted something that would be ongoing," he said. "We joined with CART and everyone got excited about combining everything that's going on in downtown Norman with the OU community and Campus Corner."
Fry will showcase his own landscape paintings and illustrations as part of Friday's inaugural event. A reception for his new exhibit, "Passion for the Land," will open 6 p.m. at the Performing Arts Studio, 200 S. Jones.
The bus tour will begin on Main Street across from Copelin's Office Center, 425 W. Main, and will run a 30-minute route from downtown to campus and back. During the bus ride, students and actors from Norman's Sooner Theatre will provide entertainment and exhibit information.
