Norman songwriters gather for monthly showcase

If you're sick of the same old tunes and ready for something fresh and new, check out the NormanMusicScene.com Singer/Songwriter Showcase this Friday at Borders, 300 Norman Center Court in Norman.

Once a month, a handful of Norman's local artists come together to give the town a taste of what the music scene has to offer. This month's show will be hosted by local songwriter Daddy Love, with performances by:
" Tom Crider,
" Bryan S. Rolin and
" John Madison.

"We all have different experiences and different styles, so it's a very dynamic show," Love said. "It's great to have a place where people can come play their own songs and bounce it off an audience, without somebody asking them to do a cover."

AUDIENCES
The showcase has been a staple in Norman's music scene for the past four years, and each time, the audience gains more and more regulars. Love said that playing in front of an audience is a vital part of the songwriting process.

"You know you're doing something right when you look up and people are following your music. It's one thing to tap your foot to a song you've heard 100 times before, but it's completely different when it's something they've never heard, and they like it," Love said.

The showcase is a free event and will be held from 8-10 p.m. For more information, call 573-4907 or visit their site. "Lauren Parajon
