OKC musician shares coleslaw preparation secrets



Flaming Lips front man Wayne Coyne shared a culinary creation with Spin magazine last month, detailing special seasonings he sometimes used to spice up fare at a local Long John Silver's.

The LJS "experiments," as Coyne called them, were carried out during the performer's near 12-year tenure as a fry cook at a northwest Oklahoma City franchise of the national restaurant chain.

Coyne told Spin's John Sellers he would occasionally empty entire ashtrays into 50-pound tubs of coleslaw when he would "get bored."

"Literally right into the coleslaw "¦ just to see if people would notice," Coyne told the magazine.

The batches of Coyne-slaw didn't pass muster with every customer, but the singer told Spin he would disavow any knowledge of the suspicious slaw.

"They'd say, 'Oh, something was in my coleslaw!' and I'd be like, 'I don't know about that,'" he told the magazine.
