From the "you can't make this up" department: transgender attorney Brittany Novotny is considering a run at moral warrior Sally Kern for Kern's Oklahoma House District 84 in 2010. Statements made to various blogs around Oklahoma City indicate that she is seriously considering a run. She told Gossip-Boy.com: "I'm exploring a run for House District 84 because we need a representative who values all families in the district, who is dedicated to bringing good jobs to Oklahoma, and who will work tirelessly to make sure our children are getting the best education in our public schools." Sounds like an announcement to us.
Not so fast, though. In a phone conversation with CFN's moral newshound, Novotny declined to announce her candidacy until October. This despite www.brittany4hd84.com, a new fund-raising Web site with a logo that's cleverly designed to look like a vanity plate. According to the domain registry search on Network Solutions, the site's registrant name is "Brittany Novotny." Who'd a thunk it?
Journalists are a morbid, jaded bunch, but we have to tell you the thought of a transgender attorney running against the woman who created the Oklahoma Citizen's Proclamation for Morality, a document that gives the LGBT community part of the blame for America's economic woes, gives us hope that all the good stories have not yet been written. We have been awake nights dreaming of what's to come: hate-filled placards; harsh words; slurs; and national media attention not directed at trailer parks or tornadoes.
