Even gutter balls score this weekend with the Oklahoma City Zoo at the 14th annual Bowling for Rhinos fund-raiser. Whether pro or amateur, bowlers young and old can have a blast while helping to save endangered rhinos.
Teams can play at 2 or 7 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Lanes Bowling Alley, 11917 N. Penn. At the 2 p.m. session, children 12 and under pay $15 and adults pay $20. Cost for all ages at the 7 p.m. session is $20.
Aside from manning the lanes, participants can purchase raffle tickets for rhino-inspired art or win door prizes. The cost also includes food and a Bowling for Rhinos T-shirt.
CONSERVATION
Coordinator Jaimee Flinchbaugh said her goal is to educate the community about endangered species and their endangered habitats.
"We're helping spread the word about the plight of animals and what needs to be done," she said.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will go directly toward conservation projects in Asia and Africa that help save many endangered animals, Flinchbaugh said.
"Even though it's called Bowling for Rhinos, we're not just helping save rhinos, we're helping save hundreds of species," she said. "In reality, participants are actually helping save everything from little insects up to the giant mammals, the rhinos, and there are bird species and reptiles, as well as the habitat itself."
