Okies abound on Grammy nominations list



Oklahoma bands and musicians garnered nearly a dozen nominations for the 50th annual Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy has announced.

Some of the nominations earned by Okies " past or present " include:

" Carrie Underwood's "Oh Love" (with Brad Paisley) for best Country Collaboration with Vocals and best Country Song, and "Before He Cheats" for best Female Country Vocal Performance and Song of the Year.
" Shiny Toy Guns' "We Are Pilots" for best Electronic/Dance Album.
" Vince Gill's "These Days" for Album of the Year and best Country Album.
" Songwriter J.J. Cale for "The Road to Escondido" (with Eric Clapton) for best Contemporary Blues Album.
" The Flaming Lips' "At War with the Mystics 5.1" for best Surround Sound Album.
" Reba McEntire for "Because of You" (with Kelly Clarkson) for best Country Collaboration with Vocals.
" Trisha Yearwood's "Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love" for best Female Country Vocal Performance.
" Brooks & Dunn's "Proud of the House We Built" for best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
" Walter Ahhaitty's "Oklahoma Style" for best Native American Music Album.
" Christian rock band Pillar's "The Reckoning" for best Rock or Rap Gospel Album.
" Woody Guthrie's recently discovered 1949 live recording "The Live Wire" for best Historical Album.
