Oklahoma artist Dennis Parker will give a free oil painting demonstration 7 p.m. Monday at the Mid-Del Art Guild's monthly meeting. Parker, from Oklahoma City, teaches and demonstrates throughout the state and has painted several award-winning works of art and studied with accomplished artist Richard Goetz.
"He's really well known here in Oklahoma," said Sheila Minnich, organization president. "He's been teaching oil painting since 1975."
The Mid-Del Art Guild, an organization of about 80 members, promotes art education and appreciation in the metro, hosts a guest artist at each monthly meeting.
"They might be anything from a wood carver or pastel artist," Minnich said. "Anything that involves art. Some of our members can participate, or just sit back and watch them do their artwork."
Meetings are open to both members and nonmembers. Although many of its members have been part of the organization since its founding in the late 1970s, there are always new people coming in, Minnich said. Members can bring samples of their artwork to show at each meeting, some of which they display at different businesses in the area.
The Mid-Del Art Guild also hosts about four art workshops and two art shows a year. In addition, it invites representatives from different art supply companies to each meeting to bring samples of new products.
The organization meets at Studio Mid-Del, 1730 Center in Midwest City. For more information, call 455-3777.
