Oklahoma City couples wins 7-7-07 Wal-Mart wedding contest

Watch out for falling vows! Shoppers of the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 7800 Northwest Expressway might notice a little something unusual going on in the aisles on Saturday " not to mention a little something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

Oklahoma City couple Oliver Roper and Debra Russell are slated to say "I do" in the store's lawn and garden department, with an adjacent tent for the reception, complete with cake and food. The spouses-to-be are one of just seven couples nationwide who won the retail giant's "Lucky in Love Wedding Search," from more than 400 entrants.

According to Wal-Mart, July 7, 2007, is the most sought-after wedding date of the year, for its trio of lucky sevens.

And speaking of lucky, the Roper-Russell nuptials will ring up at an estimated value of more than $5,000, including rings, invitations, floral bouquets, a digital camera, a $1,000 gift card and a portable GPS device. We assume the latter is a preventative measure against a "runaway bride" scenario.

Roper wrote in his entry, "I love Debra and think she deserves her childhood dream of having a wedding and being given away by her father."

But did that dream include self-checkout lines and an elderly person at the front door handing out yellow smiley-face stickers?
