In a bid to become the poster child for legislative branches highjacked by religious fervor, the Oklahoma Legislature, led by Rep. Sally Kern, has introduced a resolution that has been called "bizarre" by the Huffington Post.
Others, however, have different names for it. Dave Weigel at the Washington Independent called our Legislature a "petri dish for wingnuttery." Doesn't that make you just swell with pride? We bet people and companies will be beating down the proverbial doors to come live and work in our welcoming land!
The morality resolution is heavy on the proclamations, with a lot of "WHEREAS" and smiting of the sinners. Our favorite, however, is this lovely little bit: "WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States disregards the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior."
The resolution ends with this rousing finish:
"We "¦ humbly call upon Holy God, our Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer, to have mercy on this nation, to stay His hand of judgment, and grant a national awakening of righteousness and Christian renewal as we repent of our great sin."
Annnnd, scene. So, when do we start burning the heretics? We'll bring the marshmallows!
