Stoops and his pride made waves recently in an interview during a Sooner Caravan stop in Tulsa, when he admirably (if not futilely) defended his conference against the big, bad SEC winner of seven consecutive BCS national championships.
So theyve had the best team in college football, he said. They havent had the whole conference. Because, again, half of em havent done much at all.
The man does have a point, yet the rest of college football nation shant ever question the SECs media-anointed superiority.
Unless, of course, you live in Oklahoma.
A recent ESPN.com poll
asked, Which conference is stronger overall in football? The
overwhelming majority 83 percent, in fact said the SEC.
When broken down by state, 49 of 50 agreed.
The
one exception? None other than the Sooner State itself. Fifty-three
percent of Oklahomans echoed the sentiments of their patron saint and
all-around thinker, free- Stoops.
