In the world of art, a red dot on a piece signifies that a sale has been made on that particular work.

For the gallery Individual Artists of Oklahoma, 706 W. Sheridan, the colored circle holds an additional meaning.

"Red Dot," IAO's annual art auction and sale is an event that directly affects the gallery's existence, said Clint Stone, executive director. IAO is responsible for raising at least 10 percent of its annual operating costs, and "Red Dot" is its primary fundraiser to do just that.

"We pride ourselves on being resourceful while providing the best experience to our members and the Oklahoma arts community," Stone said. "This event allows us to do that."

To be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, the event features more than 110 works of art displayed across the gallery walls and floor. Each piece, created by just as many local artists from various disciplines, lends itself to several genres, from traditional to progressive and contemporary.

The night thrives off the attendees and their willingness to make their own adventure out of the event, Stone said.

"The crowd shows up and they steer the ship," he said. "This really is a unique event."
