For years, people have struggled to decide whether fanny packs are cool. DNA Galleries wants to help with that decision.

The Plaza District gallery at 1705-B N.W. 16th will hold its second fanny pack fashion show from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday. Unlike the first show, the contestants are designing their own packs to model, modified into everything from fish tanks to boom boxes. According to gallery co-owner Amanda Bradway, the show should be quite a spectacle.

“We’re gonna get some really, really ridiculous designs this year,” Bradway said. She came up with the idea after seeing some wildly designed fanny packs in New York. The first show was two years ago, but last year, they were unable to hold a follow-up. This weekend, it’s back to business.

Bradway said that the show should be an all-around good time, labeling the first show as very successful. She said many people made their first trip to the Plaza District for that show.

“It’s outrageous,” she said. “You’re gonna see things here that you’re not gonna see anywhere else in the city.”

She noted that the displayed packs should be available for sale after the show. For more information, call 371-2460 or visit —Ryan Querbach
