Sprinkle some fairy dust, wiggle your wings and prepare to dance the night away at the annual Faerie Ball in the Paseo Arts District.
The kid-friendly night starts with flower crown-weaving and wing-making in the "Fairy Glen," located behind The Art of Yoga, 2920 Paseo, said Lorrie Keller, artistic director of Theatre Upon a StarDanceSwan.
Children are encouraged to dress up as fairies or other mythical creatures, like elves, or even garden critters, such as bugs, she said.
"It's a creative family event. It's make-believe and fanciful," she said.
Keller said the children gather to share their costumes and make friends with other kids from around the metro.
DANCE AND PLAY
After the costumes are complete, music begins at 8 p.m. under the direction of Steve McLinn of Ojas and Larry Keller, who will perform for kids as they dance and play, Keller said. StarDanceSwan dancers will help the children choreograph their own dances.
"It's not anything technical. We're just having a good time," she said. "The children are delighted to gather together."
Keller said the ball encourages children's creativity, which later can help with schoolwork.
"We want them to move, dance and experience joy in summer make-believe," she said.
The music will continue until dusk. As it starts to get dark, the district will be draped in lights so families can stay outside a little longer, Keller said.
